League of Legends After Vanguard
On January 5th 2024, Riot Games announced the controversial kernel-level anticheat, Vanguard, was being implemented in League of Legends as a replacement to their previous anticheat solution. This implementation, among other consequences, effectively killed all standard and accessible methods of installing and playing League of Legends on Linux systems.
It was eventually disclosed that Vanguard will not receive a macOS port (CITATION), thereby technically allowing potential avenues open for playing on Linux. However, currently all known solutions that could leverage the macOS build of LoL are either nowhere near mature enough to be working with graphical applications, or extraordinarily prohibitive, particularly when compared to previous Wine-based methods. Unless the situation with one of those projects improves dramatically, it is safe to still consider League of Linux functionally dead.
